Today the Council of Ministers Granite Hall was the venue of the ceremony of the transfer of power. Statements were made by Andrey Gurov, Head of the Caretaker Government, and by Prime Minister Rumen Radev.
Andrey Gurov:
Dear Prime Minister,
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, members of the new government,
Dear Colleagues, members of the caretaker government,
I would like to tell everyone that it is not a historical coincidence that we are here. All of us, on my left and on my right, came into this building because the Bulgarian citizens came out into the streets. They came out because they refused to tolerate greed, arrogance and self-conceit, even if only for a few months.
The caretaker government showed that statehood can have a backbone, that it can communicate with personal names and that power can be exercised with integrity and not as a slogan but as labor. We put in place an upright state and an upright community.
Now it is quite normal for this community to have very high expectations from your government, especially against the backdrop of the unprecedented support that exists both in the Parliament and in the President’s Office.
There were many attacks on us, there were sabotages and there was outright rage from the people who perceived statehood as a tool for private gain and private interest.
Don’t surrender citizens and power to these people. Don’t let the phone control the law and don’t fear the truth but fear the people who suppress the truth.
The life of a government is not counted as months and years only. It is also measured in terms of the legacy it leaves and whether that legacy is more freedom or more fear.
Our time was a time of normality. It was a time of integrity and law-abidance. Hopefully the time will not end here and now!
We wish you courage. We wish you firmness for the sake of Bulgaria!
Rumen Radev:
Dear Prime Minister,
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, cabinet members,
Dear media members,
First of all, I would like to congratulate you on your dedicated work to ensure the holding of normal and fair elections. I would like to thank you for your efforts to ensure the continuity of the operation of the government institutions and the evidence of this, dear Prime Minister, is the detailed report that has just been handed over to me to inform about the current operations of the government. You were bound to perform this mission in consequence of the inopportune amendments to the Constitution that have brought Bulgaria to a dead end. I know that it was not easy for you and appreciate the effort of the people who worked conscientiously. I believe that our government is the first step towards the establishment of a stable, strategically oriented rule of Bulgaria with one prospect: the modern development of Bulgaria as a contemporary European state and in ensuring the security and wellbeing of Bulgarian citizens with clearly-defined values that guide us – democracy, freedom, solidarity and justice. I wish you all health and success in your further endeavors.
Thank you!
