Prime Minister Rumen Radev had a meeting with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Alexandru Munteanu where they discussed the development of bilateral relations and the process of Moldova’s European integration.
At the meeting Rumen Radev congratulated Moldova’s Prime Minister on the upcoming opening of the negotiations of the country’s EU membership and emphasized that this important stage is the result of real reforms and of achieved tangible results. Prime Minister Rumen Radev shared the Bulgarian experience in the process of European integration and singled out both achievements and mistakes made. As an appropriate example Rumen Radev quoted the manner of allocation of subsidies in agriculture as a procedure that led to imbalances and worsened regional disproportions.
The discussion touched on the prospects to promote cooperation in the economy and also in high technologies, tourism, culture and academic exchanges.
Alexandru Munteanu described Bulgaria as a traditional and reliable partner of his country and expressed his satisfaction with the active ties in the field of education and culture. In this context, he pointed out the dedicated mission of the saintly brothers Cyril and Methodius and Bulgaria’s deep-seated cultural traditions.
The Prime Ministers agreed on the need to maintain a more active student exchange between the universities of Bulgaria and Moldova. Moldova’s Prime Minister reiterated his country’s commitment to work to maintain the autonomy and sustainable development of the Taraclia Region. For his part, Rumen Radev stressed that the effective functioning of local institutions should continue so as to ensure the viability and the development of the region.
Moldova’s Prime Minister extended an invitation to Prime Minister Rumen Radev to visit his country. Rumen Radev welcomed the initiative and emphasized that such a visit should be in parallel with a business forum that would give a stronger impetus to economic relations between Bulgaria and Moldova.
