In addition to being a neighbor and a friend, Türkiye is Bulgaria’s key partner in a number of areas of cooperation such as security, migration, energy and transport connectivity. Alongside, there are some new areas holding great potential for interaction such as the development of high technologies and Artificial Intelligence. This was stated by Prime Minister Rumen Radev at his meeting with Türkiye’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan. Prime Minister Rumen Radev noted that Mr. Fidan’s current visit to Sofia is a next step towards the promotion of bilateral relations.
The discussion in the Prime Minister’s Office laid emphasis on the joint challenges that the two countries face as NATO allies and their shared commitment to security, especially the Black Sea Region security. An excellent example of fruitful cooperation to that effect is the combined effort of Bulgaria, Türkiye and Romania within the Black Sea Mine Countermeasure Task Group that is important for the security and safety of shipping and helps strengthen regional security.
Prime Minister Rumen Radev emphasized the cabinet’s ambition to ensure the best possible business climate in Bulgaria and noted the large number of investors from Türkiye – over 2200 companies with business in Bulgaria, with operations in production, trade, logistics and services. This makes Türkiye one of Bulgaria’s leading foreign trade partners with a new record of Euro 7.7 billion in bilateral trade in 2024.
Energy and transport connectivity were likewise focal points of the meeting of Prime Minister Rumen Radev with Türkiye’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan.
