Bulgaria shows concern about developments in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank and will continue to support efforts to cease hostilities in the region. This was stated by Prime Minister Rumen Radev at his meeting with Ahmed Majdalani, Special Envoy of the President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas. Rumen Radev stressed that Bulgaria supports the practical implementation of Resolution 2803 of the UN Security Council and the Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict that open the way to the resumption of the political process in the pursuit of a long-term peace solution of which the European Union is a party, along with others.
Consistent efforts are needed on the part of the whole international community to achieve a lasting and just peace based on the principle of a two-state solution to guarantee the security of both the State of Palestine and the State of Israel, Rumen Radev said. The Prime Minister noted that the question of an effective peace solution in the Middle East is put up by more and more countries, especially after the escalation of hostilities in the Gaza Strip where tens of thousands of people lost their lives, including thousands of children.
At the meeting Ahmed Majdalani reiterated the Palestinian Authority’s support for the peace process by the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2803 that provides for the disarmament of Hamas and for the withdrawal of the Israeli Army from the Gaza Strip. Ahmed Majdalani noted the Palestinian Authority’s preparations for the parliamentary elections in November 2026 that are of key importance for the legitimacy of the institutions and for strengthening the unity of the Palestinian people and called for a broad international election observation mission.
