“Hosting Giro d'Italia 2026 in Bulgaria will ensure global visibility for our country for millions of cycling fans worldwide. Hosting the great start (Grande Partenza) of the race and its first three stages in Bulgaria will place the country on the world sports and tourism stage for a whole week.” This was stated by Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov when he met in Rome with the President of RCS Media Group Urbano Cairo and with the CEO of RCS Sport Paolo Bellino. The meeting was about the preparations for the kick off of Giro d’Italia 2026 in Bulgaria. The Prime Minister was welcomed by Italy’s Minister for Sport Andrea Abodi.
“The race will be a showcase of Bulgaria’s sceneries and achievements as it hosts the Grande Partenza and the first three stages of the new 2026 edition,” the Prime Minister said further.
The meeting discussed organizational matters including logistics, infrastructure media coverage and coordination between Bulgarian institutions and the organizer of the race. Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov reiterated the cabinet’s full commitment to the successful preparation and course of the race in 2026.
“Giro d’Italia 2026 will inspire young people across the world to engage actively in sports and will promote cycling as a way of life,” said the Minister of Youth and Sports Ivan Peshev.
“Hosting the first stages of Giro d’Italia will put Bulgaria on the world tourism map and will show Bulgarian landscape and history to millions of new visitors from all over the world,” said the Minister of Tourism Miroslav Borshosh.
Giro d’Italia is one of the most prestigious and most viewed cycling races in the world, with over 100 years of history. The race is broadcast by TV channels in some 200 countries and this ensures significant international visibility for Bulgaria and exceptional economic benefits for the country.
