Prime Minister Andrey Gurov prior to European Council meeting: Bulgaria to be at full speed in Europe

19.03.2026

Bulgaria must be at full speed in Europe; we support all positions for a stronger EU. This was stated by Prime Minister Andrey Gurov prior to the opening of the European Council meeting in Brussels. Today, in the Belgian capital, the Heads of State and Government are to discuss a number of issues, including European security and competitiveness, and a summit of the Eurozone countries will be held.

Regarding the conflict in the Middle East, Prime Minister Andrey Gurov pointed out that at present neither NATO nor the EU are involved in it. The Prime Minister stressed the need for de-escalation and for solutions to be found to stop hostilities and to ease tensions in the situation of high energy prices and potential migratory pressure. We will support any alleviating action to that effect, Andrey Gurov said.

The Prime Minister emphasized the caretaker government’s measures to support the most vulnerable Bulgarian citizens to address the fuel price increases. The prices of petroleum products continue to rise and none of the countries can meet these challenges in the best way; however, what we are doing is to target primarily the most vulnerable groups, Andrey Gurov stressed. The Prime Minister recalled that the cabinet’s measures are designed in a way that enables them to reach people as quickly as possible.
