29.05.2026

Europe is facing many challenges and we must find common solutions. This was stated by Prime Minister Rumen Radev after his meeting with the President of the European Council António Costa in Brussels. One of the main items on the discussion agenda was the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) for the European partners understand and share the view that Europe needs to make a sizeable investment in competitiveness in the field of security and defense.

The Prime Minister was firm that it is essential for both Bulgaria and Europe to continue to maintain the main policies that unite the EU – the Cohesion Policy and the Common Agricultural Policy. “On the one hand, this is a very ambitious budget for Europe and we will support it but on the condition that we do not forget what brings us together. I believe that we will find a just and balanced solution to these challenges,” Rumen Radev said firmly.

The Prime Minister underscored one other issue that is important for Bulgaria, viz. the economic, industrial and technological differences among the EU countries. Rumen Radev and António Costa discussed the challenges facing the new European Competitiveness Fund (ECF) that will be a source of significant funding for the modernization of industries and technologies. “We discussed how to allot the money in a fair way so that countries like Bulgaria and Portugal can be convinced to get involved in the development of major European industrial projects. This is very important for the achievement of real cohesion in innovation in industry and in digitalization,” the Prime Minister said.

For his part, the President of the European Council António Costa congratulated Prime Minister Rumen Radev on the election victory. “Bulgaria is at the heart of the European Union as a full member of the EU, the Eurozone and Schengen,” António Costa stressed. He stated firmly that the country is working together with the other member states to bring more prosperity, security and peace in the region and that the European partners count on the Prime Minister to achieve these goals.
