The branch of the Angel Kanchev University of Rousse that opened in the Moldovan city of Taraclia this year officially acquired the building of the ex University of Taraclia. The agreement was signed by Bulgaria’s Minister of Education and Science Krasimir Vachev and Moldova’s Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun, in the presence of Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov and Moldova’s Prime Minister Dorin Recean.
Only a month and a half after it was opened, the number of students enrolled in the branch of the University of Rousse already exceeds 200. “This university will combine the opportunity to study in Bulgarian outside the country, will provide the opportunity to study modern specialties and will become an attractive educational institution not only for Bulgarians, but will be an educational institution that, drawing on the prestige of the University of Rousse, will attract students in the future,” emphasized Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov in his speech. In addition, he wished: “May future Presidents, Prime Ministers, Ministers and Members of the European Parliament who will proudly make the name of Moldova and of Bulgaria known around the world graduate from this university.”
The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to the government of Moldova for its attitude to the Bulgarian community. “This gives an exceptional positive impulse to our bilateral relations but, in addition, it is an example of the understanding of what European values are, going far beyond the borders of our countries and the limits of our thinking. Because the attitude towards the foreign community, towards national minorities is pivotal for the development of a country. I am extremely proud that today at our meeting we see the government of Moldova as a friendly partner with whom we will march forward together to our future,” Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov emphasized.
Minister of Education Krasimir Valchev thanked the Moldovan government and Minister Dan Perciun who helped open the branch of the University of Rousse in Taraclia. “I thank them for their commitment to this important mission that the preservation and promotion of higher education is. It is a mission to conserve and support the Bulgarian language, culture and traditions, here in Taraclia,” Krasimir Valchev said. He noted that the University of Rousse is one of the leading European higher education institutions, which is engaged in the largest number of pan-European projects and in the European University Network. “This is after all our common European future, which we must share. It also goes through educational cooperation and we have assigned this mission to the University of Rousse, as we are here today,” the Minister of Education went on to say.
Academician Hristo Beloev, Rector Emeritus of the University of Rousse, expressed his joy in the future students’ great interest in the education institution. “We are sincerely glad that our aspiration to support our fellow countrymen in Moldova and to strengthen their innate Bulgarian spirit and traditions conserved has materialized. Truly, the Bulgarian community here deserves our great respect, gratitude and support,” Acad. Beloev said further.
On 1 September 2025, the branch of the Angel Kanchev University of Rousse in Taraclia will welcome its first batch of students.
