“Bulgaria stands ready to support Moldova in the preparations for the upcoming pre-accession negotiations with the European Union by sharing experience, good practices and lessons learned from its own membership.” This was stated by Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov at his meeting with the Speaker of Moldova’s Parliament Igor Grosu. “Our country can be a reliable partner in this process, which requires serious institutional preparation and strong political commitment,” he emphasized. At the discussion, the two discussers voiced a shared will to promote bilateral cooperation by, inter alia, promotion of interparliamentary dialog and exchange of experts.
The discussion devoted attention to the common challenges on the path to European integration. Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov noted that as Moldova advances towards the EU, efforts to address hybrid threats and disinformation are of key importance, especially in the context of the upcoming parliamentary elections on 28 September 2025.
“Bulgaria highly appreciates the commitment of Moldovan institutions to democratic reforms and the rule of law. Building on the capacity to withstand external effects is an integral part of the European path,” the Prime Minister emphasized.
Rossen Jeliazkov thanked Speaker Igor Grosu for the steady support to the Bulgarian community in the country, which is a lasting bridge between the two peoples and a pillar of friendship between Bulgaria and Moldova. The newly opened branch of the Angel Kanchev University of Rousse in Taraclia is an excellent example of this cooperation.
Rossen Jeliazkov also noted that the work to that effect will deepen as the government will offer a curriculum for the children in Taraclia and the course will be a kind of Bulgarian “Erasmus”. “Our goal is to bring annually between 200 and 400 children who are ethnic Bulgarians on a visit to Bulgaria so that they get to know on site our millennial history and our common traditions and to speak the graceful Bulgarian language,” the Prime Minister said further.
The Speaker of the Parliament of Moldova stressed that the branch of the University of Rousse is a clear message to the ethnic Bulgarians in Taraclia. “The university guarantees quality of higher education in keeping with the highest European standard and offers opportunities to young people to seek employment on the European labor market,” he pointed out. Igor Grosu thanked the Bulgarian government for the active cooperation in the field of energy and for Bulgaria’s assistance to ensure Moldova’s energy security.
Rossen Jeliazkov and Igor Grosu recognized the good economic relations and outlined the opportunities to strengthen them in the energy sector, Renewable Energy Sources (RESs), trade, tourism, high technologies and last but not least, cybersecurity.
Speaker of Parliament Igor Grosu congratulated Bulgaria on its accession to the Eurozone. He pointed out that the Bulgarian government and institutions managed to achieve a lot within a short time, with the enormous efforts that they invested. The result is visible – as of 1 January 2026, Bulgaria is officially a member of the Eurozone.
