Excellent bilateral relations between Bulgaria and Moldova rest on how the Bulgarian community is treated there and on shared European values. This is what Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov said at the joint briefing in Chișinău with Moldova’s Prime Minister Dorin Recean. Later today, the two prime ministers will visit the city of Taraclia where a branch the Angel Kanchev University of Rousse was opened. “The opening of the branch of the University of Rousse is an important guarantee for the protection of the ethnic cultural rights of the Bulgarians and for the expansion of opportunities for the education system in that area,” Rossen Jeliazkov said. The Prime Minister thanked the Moldovan side for its assistance in the implementation of this significant project, including the financing with public money for citizens of different ethnic backgrounds in the specialties taught which provides great opportunities for the education system and the training of future specialists.
Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov recognized Moldova’s remarkable success on its path to accession to the European Union and the reforms made. “Bulgaria will share its experience in the accession to the EU not only as an ardent supporter but also as a country that has learned many lessons during this intricate process,” the Prime Minister emphasized. Rossen Jeliazkov noted the solid potential for cooperation between the two countries in a number of sectors. The Prime Minister pointed out the importance of transport connectivity in the context of building the vertical South-North infrastructure. “Our cooperation in the energy sector and in the development of the Vertical Gas Corridor will provide a structural guarantee for both the sources and the route for the supply of natural gas, which will decrease the dependence of Moldova but also of the European Union as a whole on Russian gas supplies,” Rossen Jeliazkov said further. The Prime Minister noted that Bulgaria and Moldova share the same concerns regarding Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine and the hybrid threats that must be parried.
Moldova’s Prime Minister Dorin Recean noted that for more than 200 years the Bulgarian community has been part of Moldova’s society. We rejoice together, we work together and now we are building our European future together, Dorin Recean emphasized. He highlighted the importance of respect for diversity, a concrete example of which is the University of Taraclia.
It is an exceptional project where subjects will be taught in Bulgarian, Romanian and English and students will be awarded European diplomas and scholarships, Dorin Recean said and added that this is clearly a step towards quality education relevant to Europe. Moldova’s Prime Minister specially thanked the Bulgarian authorities for the donation of textbooks in Bulgarian language and literature.
Moldova’s Prime Minister recognized the importance of cooperation with Bulgaria in the energy sector for the benefit of the achievement of energy diversification. Bulgaria sides with us in our accession to the European Union, Moldova’s Prime Minister said and thanked for the durable resilient support.
